Date of birth:

12th April 1990

Where are you from?

Originally a small village Lancashire called Newton, near Preston.

Where do you live now?

How did you get into climbing?

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after high school, and ended up on an Outdoor Education course. That’s where I was introduced to a variety of new outdoor sports, climbing being the main one.

When you're not climbing, what are you doing?

Either hitting the gym, or putting my feet up!

What’s your most memorable climbing experience?

Climbing the Buachaille Etive Mor In Glen Etive. It was my first “proper” climbing trip with college, and it was EPIC! It was the trip that solidified my love of climbing and adventure.

What do you love about climbing?

The variety of places it can take you if you’re willing to explore, and the people you meet along the way. Everybody can climb all over the world, no matter how hard you climb, so you end up with a massive variety of people and skills in relatively small areas, all just happy to be there.

Who are the people that inspire you?

I’ve never really had an idol in the climbing world, but a trip at Stanage stands out. I fell off a route on a busy day, to a small applause and a chuckle from a couple of old chaps that were watching. They were in their mid 70s and gave me some beta about a blind hold on the route. They proceeded to explain that they both climb 5 or 6 times a week since they retired, and will carry on doing so as long as they can. Both of them had climbed practically everything in the Peak over the years, and we just had a chat about the best routes. They were pretty inspiring!

What’s your favourite Constant Climbing tee?

It’s a straight tie between the Bas Cu’ and Katahdin.

Do you have a moto?

As boring as it is, I don’t, but “failing to prepare, is preparing to fail” is as good as any.

Favourite film?

Currently, Guardians of the Galaxy, it changes week to week...

Cheese or cake or cheesecake?

You’ve clearly not had a slice of my mum’s cake, or this wouldn’t be a question. CAKE!
